How to find out what your potential customers are asking online22 Dec 2021

Maybe you’re not getting any views on your blog content. Maybe you’ve fallen down a rabbit hole reading about keywords, long tails, rankings and SEO. If you’re completely confused and you’re not sure what exactly you should be doing, then this post is for you. We’re going to walk through several easy and completely free ways of how to find out what your potential customers are asking online

Autocomplete

You can do this in a Google search, as well as a YouTube search. Simply start writing something like ‘Estate Agent’ and up pop 10 or so popular suggestions that Google thinks you might be searching for. Take note! Write down any questions that might be relevant as blog titles for you.

I did this for YouTube, and got quite a few results along the lines of ‘Estate Agent apprenticeship’, ‘estate agent tips’, ‘estate agent interview tips’, and ‘estate agent training uk’. What this tells me, is that if you’re having a big recruitment drive, creating video content for YouTube and then embedding those videos onto your web pages could have a big impact on the number of website hits you get.

Related searches

When you conduct a search on Google, if you scroll right down to the bottom of the page you’ll find a ‘related searches’ section. Again, this shows popular searches similar to what you’ve typed in, and there may be some gems you can note down.

How to turn these questions into a blogging strategy

If it’s just you, and you don’t have time to put together a comprehensive blogging strategy, then start with these. Take the questions you find, and put them as your blog titles. ‘How to become a UK landlord’, ‘How to bleed a radiator’, ‘What are the best ways to invest in property?’

I didn’t research those, I made them up. But if you have a question for a title and then you answer it clearly and succinctly in the body of your blog post, people asking those questions will start to see your content in searches and find it useful which means Google will also love it.

A free keyword tool

We said we weren’t really going to mention keywords, but they are a bit useful here. If you have a bit more time, you might want to do some keyword research which not only tells you how many monthly searches there are for particular words and phrases but also, how easy it is to rank for them.

There are loads of keyword tools out there, this one is useful, easy to use, and most importantly free.

Once you’ve researched your questions, you might want to put key bits of them into this tool. Simply type it into the search bar, select ‘United Kingdom’ (you’ll know you missed this step if you see lots of results for real estate) and then hit search.

This will then give you keywords related to your search, and some data about them. We’re just going to focus on the number of searches and the competition score.

Wordtracker

Your aim is to find keywords and phrases relevant to you, which has a high number of searches and a low competition score. This means lots of people are searching for it, but not very many are actively attempting to rank for it.

Yes, there is a lot more to it but this is about stripping away the confusion and taking the guesswork out of choosing what to write about. It may take a bit of time (it can take at least 6 months to see changes in Google rankings depending on the competition score of your keywords) but you should be able to monitor results and see an uptick in your traffic.
